The Gambia is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Solving poverty is very complex. Yet we believe that good education and basic healthcare are keys to a better future. By helping children go to school, feeding them and providing basic healthcare, we can actually contribute to the needs of the individual child.
The Yamah Foundation has a partnership with London Corner School in London Corner, Serrekunda, The Gambia, which thanks to sponsorship can contribute to:
- Developing a good education system.
- Caring for the individual child by providing a daily meal and clothing.
- Medical care.
- Health education.
- Water supply.
- Malaria prevention.
Principles
- We are committed to encouraging individual child development.
- Sponsors and donors are kept informed of developments at the school and projects.
- We use donations only for the purpose for which they were given.
- Financial transparency; the annual balance sheet is transparent and can be requested from the board.
- Working closely with the school's parent council and education team, advising on the above points.
- Visits to the school to maintain contacts are at the board's own expense.
Finance
- The sponsored money is not transferred to the child's family, but to the school's parent council. Income and expenditure will be budgeted in consultation with Yamah Foundation, the school's parents' council and management.
- In case of mismanagement, Yamah stops sponsorship in consultation with sponsors and donors.
