UPDATE OCTOBER 2024
It's over! Saturday 7 September was the Jungfrau Marathon, which Christiaan and Gerwin helped run for the Yamah Foundation. Thanks in part to all the donations 5,000 euros raised for the Yamah Foundation! Really great, thanks to everyone who contributed!
Of the 2 marathons we ran together total, we unfortunately only completed 1.75. Christiaan ran the whole marathon in the very respectable time of 5 hours and 40 minutes! Gerwin also went well up to 25 kilometres, but probably due to a misfired gel gel he got nauseous, started vomiting, lost all energy and shortly afterwards cramped up for the first time in his running life, in both legs.... He still tried after some medical help, but he had to drop out after 31 kilometres. Where Chris could be taken on the shoulders by anyone, Gerwin could use some pats on the back.
All kidding aside, we are proud that we were able to do this and that with this, and with your help, we can help so many people in The Gambia. Really SUPER THANK YOU!
Thanks again to all of you, on behalf of the Yamah Foundation,
Christiaan & Gerwin

HERE WE GO AGAIN!
The reason people want to run the marathon is because the challenge, physically, is you. The distance - how you get there - is all up to you and how hard you work. That's why people want to do it.”
- Meb Keflezighi
Challenges. Challenges. The challenge of running a mountain marathon is a serious challenge, but it is dwarfed by the challenges people face in The Gambia. The challenge of whether there is enough food, whether you can get medicine if you get sick and whether education can be pursued. The Yamah Foundation has been helping the London Corner School in Serrekunda, The Gambia provide children with these three basic needs for years.
On September 7, Christiaan Eshuis and Gerwin Nijeboer run the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland. Training officially started on 1 June with the Ermelo Half Marathon. The next 14 weeks will be all about running, walking, strength training and running to be well prepared for not only the 42 kilometres and 195 metres, but also the 2,000-metre climb that this mountain marathon entails.
Of course, there is the personal challenge, but Christiaan and Gerwin also run to raise money for the Yamah Foundation. Last year, Gerwin did the same challenge, raising almost 6,000 euros. A lot of money and, by Gambian standards, enough to build a new building with four classrooms! In February 2024, he and his family visited the school to officially open the building.
Supporting charities sometimes seems like the proverbial drop in the ocean, but we see first-hand how valuable every contribution is and can sometimes really make a difference in someone's life. We can't save the whole world, but as Mother Theresa once said, “If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one”.
It would be really cool if you help and support us to get another new building built. This can be done very simply using the form below.
Every euro that comes into the Yamah Foundation goes directly to Gambia. We do not know the proverbial bow. The board receives no remuneration and travel expenses are paid out of our own pockets.
Thanks in advance for your contribution, it is really much appreciated!
